Every crafter has the odd project that gets started and never finished. I have quite a few of these, unfortunately, but there is one that is really bugging me.
About 2 years ago, my son was really into a TV show called Octonauts. I decided to design and crochet a rug for his room.
This was my first attempt at designing a pixel pattern in Excel and dealing with color changes and carrying along the yarn so there’s no loose strings. I thought, this should be easy, it’s just all single crochet.

Here’s what I didn’t consider… since the yarn gets carried along, it never gets cut off, which means you are working with multiple colors attached at one time. This project is quite large and has lots of colors, so I found myself spending more time untangling yarn than actually crocheting.
Furthermore, since the pattern is so large, I couldn’t print it out, so I had to have my laptop open next to me every time I worked on it. I also had a huge box next to me with all my colors in it.
Eventually, my son moved on from the show and I moved on from the rug…
Now, all of a sudden, he’s back into the show and obsessed! I have actually crocheted him 4 out of the 8 main characters and feel like I should go back to the rug. Crazy how these things come full circle!

So now, I need encouragement to pick it back up and actually finish it this time! To all those out there with unfinished projects, let’s unite and vow to finish what we started!
Stay tuned to see if I ever finish it!
Wish me luck! And good luck to all of you with your unfinished business.
